A rubber duck ornament in hand-blown glass is an object that has decided to be taken seriously despite its origins in a bathtub, and this particular version has added a hat, which is the duck's way of announcing that it has evolved and would appreciate acknowledgment.
Chive's rendition stands barely four inches from base to hat brim, blown as one continuous glass shell at the furnace and painted in opaque pink with a brush small enough to define individual eyelashes on a face roughly the size of a grape. The hat is a painted-on detail, not a separate component, which means the painter had to commit to the angle before the first stroke and live with the decision. The brim required six passes of layered pigment to achieve depth against the pink body.
Ornament Care Instruction
Remember, treat these ornaments like you would a friendship with someone who brings good wine: gently. Keep them in a safe spot when not in use, avoid introducing them to toddlers or cats, and they'll be around for many holidays to come.
